Teach Your Children Spanish for a Gift That Lasts a Lifetime

Teaching your kids Spanish at a young age will benefit them for the rest of their lives. You could wait until they take beginner's Spanish class at school. Most kids have the opportunity to chose a language to learn in middle school. But since most people believe it is easier to learn a second language when you are young, why not give them a head start?

Teaching a child a second language at an early age has been shown to improve their overall learning skills. Studies have shown that children who learn Spanish or another second language at home excel in school and perform better on standardized testing. High school students that studied a foreign language scored higher on their SAT's than students who hadn't learned a second language.

Spanish, of course, isn't the only foreign language option, but there are many compelling reasons to choose Spanish. It's one of the easier foreign languages to learn and it provides a good background for learning additional languages. Business opportunities abound for an English speaking person with Spanish fluency. And learning Spanish will open your children's eyes to how other's view the world. The Spanish speaking population is huge and growing in the United States.

Helping your child learn another language might be one of the best gifts you can give them. More with each passing generation, our children are also becoming "citizens of the world" in addition to citizens of the US.

If you have traveled internationally, I'm sure you've noticed that many people speak more than one language. In Europe, it's not unusual to meet people who speak several languages fluently, almost unheard of in the US. Knowing a popular language like Spanish will open doors for them in the future, personally, culturally, and professionally.

There are also a number of learn Spanish audio CD's and interactive CD-ROM's that have games, songs, quizzes and jokes that make learning fun. There are learning Spanish books for kids. More than ever, there are tools that make learning a language fun and easy.

Teaching Spanish for children doesn't have to be hard, even if you don't speak the language. If you don't already speak it, why not learn along with your kids. Learning together can be a lot of fun and a great self-esteem booster for them. Since they will probably pick it up faster than you, they can help you learn.
